This cocoa yogurt recipe is insanely easy, perfect for small batches and is the ultimate healthy late night snack.

My kids love this chocolate yogurt recipe just as much as I do. And the best part, it’s lightly sweetened with only maple syrup. Made with simple ingredients and a great way for you or your kiddos to get their protein.

Easy Cocoa Yogurt Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup Greek plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
- Combine whole-milk Greek yogurt, vanilla, and maple syrup in a small bowl and mix well.
- Add cocoa powder and mix well.
- Serve immediately

Storage
Can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.
Freeze
You can freeze any leftovers for later or eat slightly frozen to go for an ice cream alternative. I usually make a larger batch and freeze in container it comes in, or freeze into smaller single serving jam jars.
If you freeze in glass, be sure to leave room for the yogurt to expand. Don’t fill the jar completely to the top.
Cocoa
If your cocoa is lumpy, you can sift it first before adding it to the yogurt. I usually just add it (lumps and all) and mix it up really well. If you let it sit a couple of minutes you can go back and stir it really well again and get most of the lumps out.
You can sub cacao powder or Dutch-processed cocoa powder as well.
Vanilla
High quality vanilla makes a huge difference. If you’re able to get your hands on some, it’s totally worth it. But whatever you got on hand is perfectly fine too!
Yogurt
I use whole milk, unsweetened and plain Greek yogurt. You can certainly use a flavored yogurt, but I would try it without the extra sweetener. It will most likely be plenty sweet with the sugar that’s already added.
You could also use regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt. It wont be as thick and creamy, but will still do the trick for your sweet tooth. I like the high protein and thickness of the Greek yogurt, but use whatever you prefer or have on hand!
Flavor variations
- Raspberries and cacao nibs
- Cherries
- Strawberries and a handful of walnuts
- Crushed peanuts and hemp seeds

Other toppings
- Peanut butter drizzle
- Diced ripe banana
- Dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder
- Scoop of chocolate protein powder for added grams of protein
- Mixed fresh berries

Sweetener
My go to is maple syrup. Just a drizzle, about ½ teaspoon to a full teaspoon does the trick. If you have a sweeter palate, you might prefer a little more. You could also use honey or a sprinkle of granulated sweetener.
